Sometimes, to break something you need unity.

Police staff around the country and across our workgroups are getting behind this year¡¯s theme for International Women¡¯s Day, which falls today [Tuesday 8 March].

The campaign is #BreakTheBias, which asks us to imagine a gender-equal world.

The day is embraced by the 51½ÖÉä Women¡¯s Advisory Network, and fully supported by the Executive.

¡°The theme ties in perfectly with our Values, particularly Respect and Valuing Diversity,¡± says Tania Kura, Deputy Commissioner: Leadership and Capability.

¡°As an organisation, we have made immense strides in these areas but we need events like International Women¡¯s Day to hold a mirror up to ourselves to check our progress.

¡°One of the key messages I take away from today¡¯s theme is the sustained striving toward a world that¡¯s free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

¡°The goals not only match our own aspirations in Police but, if we adopt them, we can contribute to the increasing fairness in society and our communities.¡±
