The Hamilton Tactical Crime Unit has this morning carried out an operation following a series of ¡®ram-raid¡¯ style burglaries.
Over the last three months offenders have committed six ram-raid burglaries in Hamilton city and West Auckland.
The burglaries have targeted commercial premises that sell high-end electrical equipment and a significant amount of stock has been taken in each incident.
Of particular concern to Police is the most recent burglary in Hamilton city on the 26th of May which saw a security guard allegedly threatened by an offender carrying a weapon.
Detective Sergeant William Loughrin said three search warrants have today been executed at properties in Hamilton, Huntly and in West Auckland where a significant amount of stolen items were recovered and are believed to be linked to the burglaries.
¡°At the West Auckland address Police also located a number of firearms, a significant cannabis cultivation and precursor substances used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.¡±
Two men will appear in the Hamilton District court this afternoon, charged with a range of offences.
¡°We have identified that gangs and organised crime groups are linked to this offending and have not ruled out further arrests,¡± says Detective Sergeant Loughrin.
