Police urge Southern road users to drive to the conditions

1 min read

Southern District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Tania Baron is appealing to drivers to drive to the conditions following a number of ice related crashes in the region this morning.

¡°We have attended over 25 crashes across the district in the past 4 hours due to ice and black ice on roads in South Otago, Gore and Invercargill,¡± says Inspector Baron.

¡°This is a particularly timely reminder with school holidays starting on Monday. We urge all road users to exercise caution and drive to the conditions.¡±

Police encourage drivers to be aware of areas with black ice and to watch following distances and speed.

Always remember:

? Drive to the conditions.

? Allow greater following distances on frosty and wet days.

? Obey emergency road closed signs and barriers.

? Follow the directions of any road patrol or police officer.

? Avoid towing in icy conditions.
