An 18-year-old who failed to stop when signalled by officers is now facing more than six charges after Police caught up with him.

At around 5.34pm, Police received a report of a member of the public being chased by a person on Browns Bay Road, Rothesay Bay.

°Â²¹¾±³Ù±ð³¾²¹³Ù¨¡ East Area Commander, Inspector Stefan Sagar says Police located the vehicle of interest travelling southbound on East Coast Road and signalled for the driver to stop.

¡°The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated,¡± he says.

¡°The Police helicopter Eagle arrived shortly after and observed the vehicle driving at speed along East Coast Road to Wairau Valley.¡±

The offender then crashed twice, on East Coast Road, Windsor Park and Forrest Hill Road, Forrest Hill, before eventually stopping on Cabello Place, Unsworth Heights.

¡°During a search of the vehicle Police have located a large knife in the footwell of the passenger's seat, another two knives in the boot, cannabis and other drug paraphernalia,¡± Inspector Sagar says.

¡°It¡¯s extremely fortunate no member of the public was seriously injured as a result of the driver¡¯s actions.

¡°I¡¯d like to acknowledge the great work by the various Police teams involved in responding to this incident.¡±
