200 grams of methamphetamine posted to an Oamaru address was stopped by Customs and lead to a joint Police and Customs operation this week. ?
The methamphetamine which has a street value of approximately $200,000, originated in China and was sourced via the internet.
This interception follows ¨C and is linked to ¨C a previous seizure of 102 grams of methamphetamine ($100,000 worth) last week. A 22-year-old man was arrested in relation to that seizure and is now facing charges of importing a class A drug and possession of a class A drug for supply.
In a separate operation, 56 grams of MDMA, with a street value of around $20,000, was intercepted before reaching its intended destination in Dunedin. Again, these drugs originated in China and were sourced using? the internet. A 21-year-old man will be facing several charges as a result of this interception.??
¡°If these drugs had reached their intended destination they would have had a significant negative impact on the local communities. Police and Customs are committed to disrupting the supply chain and these interceptions show our efforts are working,¡± says Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis.
¡°These operations are another example of Customs¡¯ excellent profiling and intervention systems and the value of Customs and Police working together to share their expertise and resources for the common goal of protecting our communities. This is a great outcome for us and Oamaru.¡± says Customs Investigations Manager, Maurice O¡¯Brien.
