A 35-year-old man remains in Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition following a shooting in Mangere, Counties Manukau this morning.
The incident happened at around 3am at an address in Yates Road.
A scene examination is underway and Police will be at the address for some time while this is carried out.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin McNaughton says Police are currently following a number of positive leads but ask anyone with information to come forward.
¡°I want to reassure the Mangere community that we are doing everything possible to identify the person or persons responsible for this crime. We have a number of detectives working on this investigation but need anyone who can help Police to please get in touch.¡±
