Fleeing driver to front court

1 min read

A driver who fled from Police in a stolen vehicle will be put before the Court.

Just after 3am, Police observed a vehicle driving in a suspicious manner along Mapau Road, Greenlane.

Auckland City East Acting Area Commander, Inspector Rachel Dolheguy, says the Police patrol unit conducted a U-turn and the vehicle took off at high speed.

¡°The unit signalled for the vehicle to stop, which it failed to do.

¡°Police elected not to pursue the vehicle and maintained long range observations.¡±

Inspector Dolheguy says not long after, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

¡°It was great teamwork and a coordinated approach that led to the man being tracked and apprehended.¡±

A 30-year-old man, who is a known gang associate, was charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and failing to stop and will appear in Auckland District Court today.
