1 min read

Quick action by a New Zealander talking to a friend in the US on the internet prevented a suicide attempt from being fatal.

The Northern Police communications centre received a call last week from an Auckland woman who was talking on the internet to a friend in Texas. The friend had recently had relationship difficulties and was allegedly suicidal. He told the Auckland woman that he was in the process of making a suicide attempt.

The woman became very concerned and immediately contacted 51½ÖÉä. The information was sent via Interpol in Wellington to the local Police in Lubbock County, Texas. Lubbock police went to the man¡¯s address and took him to hospital. The whole incident was over within a couple of hours.
