1 min read

Police advise that due to a data error, the incorrect information regarding the number of road crashes attended by Police for Queen¡¯s Birthday Weekend was supplied.

Acting Road Policing Manager Inspector Rob Morgan said information supplied to media yesterday (Monday 4 June) had originally indicated that more than 800 crashes had occurred ¨C more than double those at the same point in time for the previous year.

However, Mr Morgan said further inquiries regarding the apparent ¡°spike¡± revealed the technical error, which had led to the figure being revised and corrected.

¡°The actual figure as at 6.00am today (when the Queen¡¯s Birthday Weekend road policing period officially ends) is 431 crashes ¨C up two for the same time period last year,¡± he said.

The weekend fatality numbers remain unchanged.

Mr Morgan said Police apologised for the error.
