Levin police investigate overnight stabbing

Levin Police have arrested one person and are looking for a second after a man was stabbed at a property south of the town this morning.

A 34-year-Foxton man is undergoing surgery in Palmerston North Hospital for abdominal injuries.

Police have arrested a Levin woman who will appear in the Levin District Court later today charged with assault. More serious charges cannot be ruled out.

A second local person, a man, is also being sought in relation to the incident which happened between 5 and 5.30am at a property several kilometres south of Levin.

Detective Sergeant Sarn Paroli, Levin Police, said a passing truck driver alerted police after seeing the wounded man in some distress coming out of a main highway property south of Levin.

¡°The victim has managed to get into a car and drive himself to the Shell Service Station in Levin to seek help,¡± Detective Sergeant Paroli said. ¡°A service station attendant also came to his aid and called for an ambulance.¡±

Both the service station and the house where the stabbing is alleged to have occurred are both cordoned off for a forensic scene examination.

No further information is available at this stage.
