Further arrest made in relation to homicide of Kaea Karauria

Police have charged a second person after alleged interference in the murder investigation of 15-year-old Kaea Karauria.

A 21-year-old Napier woman was taken into custody earlier today, after Police learned while conducting follow-up enquiries, that she had provided instructions to another person to destroy evidence.

The alleged incident occurred on 11 May, the day of the fight in which Kaea was killed.

One offender caught after Napier pharmacy burglary

Police have made one arrest for the burglary of the Life Pharmacy on Monday 16 June.

Two alleged offenders entered the Emerson Street premises around 2.30am using a weapon to break through a glass door.

They took several items from the store before fleeing the area.

A short time later, Police located one of the vehicles on Venables Avenue and found items believed to be from the store.

Name release: Fatal crash, SH2, Maharahara

Police are now in a position to release the name of the woman who died following a crash involving two Ute’s on State Highway 2, Maharahara on 13 June.

She was 69-year-old, Philipa Beech.

Police extends our condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Police have charged a teenager after alleged interference in the murder investigation of 15-year-old Kaea Karauria.

The girl was taken into custody on 16 June, after Police investigating Kaea’s death learned that a witness had been approached and allegedly threatened.

Detective Inspector Dave de Lange said the alleged incident occurred on 12 May, a day after the fight in which Kaea was killed. Police learned of the approach on 6 June, while conducting follow-up enquiries.

Death following 28 May crash, SH 5, Tarawera

A person has died following a crash on State Highway 5, Tarawera earlier this week.

The person was critically injured in the crash on 28 May and was airlifted to hospital.

Sadly they passed away in hospital on 31 May.

Police extend our sympathies to their family and loved ones.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Police to have visible presence in Central Hawke's Bay over long weekend

Hawke’s Bay Police will be maintaining a visible presence in Central Hawke’s Bay over King’s Birthday Weekend, with a large gathering of gang members taking place in the area.

While the gathering will take place over the weekend at a marae that is away from main roads, Police do expect some travel around Central Hawke’s Bay by the gang members, particularly on the morning of Sunday 1 June.

He was Gene Hyrem Popata, 39, from Wairoa.

Two men have been arrested in Gisborne this afternoon, following an incident involving a firearm earlier today.

At around 6:30am today Police were called to an address on Colin Street after receiving reports of two vehicles being damaged, and a firearm presented at the occupants of the address.

Armed Police attended and two men, aged 29 and 50 were taken into custody at the scene.

A search of a nearby address resulted in Police locating two firearms.

Police have arrested a man committing a string of burglaries this morning in Napier, in what a local officer is calling great back-to-basics Police work.

Senior Sergeant Su Robinson, Napier Response Manager, says: “At around 8am, a male was seen trying to open a person’s garage door, before leaving in a vehicle of interest.

“Officers had seen the vehicle acting suspiciously earlier and quickly identified the driver as a person of interest, also.
