Mt Roskill incident resolved safely

Police have resolved a family harm incident in Mt Roskill safely.

One man is in custody after Police spent a lengthy time trying to engage with the man who was inside a property with a distressed female.

The Police helicopter, Eagle, identified an opportunity to separate the pair.

Specialist staff deployed distraction devices and the man was taken into custody.

No one was injured.

Police anticipate road cordons around White Swan Road will lift shortly and greatly appreciate co-operation from the public this afternoon.

Police have closed a section of White Swan Road in Mt Roskill in response to an ongoing family harm incident.

Cordons are in place between the intersections with Ellis Ave and Richardson Road.

Police are attempting to engage with an individual in a nearby residence.

The community can be reassured the matter is contained, and there is no wider risk.

Fire in Freemans Bay

Police has been advised of a fire at a central Auckland supermarket on College Hill, Freemans Bay.

Fire and Emergency NZ are currently leading the response.

"Our advice is for the public to avoid the immediate area while emergency services are in attendance," acting Inspector Ian Scoulding says.

"We would also ask residents in the nearby area to close their windows at this time."

Speeding Auckland motorist put lives at risk

An Auckland teenager is without wheels and will face charges after a patrol detected him driving at dangerous speeds.

It could have been a different story.

A Motorway Patrol unit on the Southern Motorway saw the vehicle being driven at high speed at around 11pm on Sunday.

Sergeant Chris Mann says it’s lucky that Police is not telling the public about a fatality today.

“Another unit picked up this vehicle on the motorway as it neared the Mt Wellington off-ramp,” he says.

“It locked the vehicle at an eye-watering speed – nearly twice the speed limit.”

Police put the brakes on scooter thief

Good police work intercepted an alleged thief looking for an easy ride in Auckland early this morning.

Around 3am two offenders arrived at a warehouse on Taylors Road, Morningside.

“The van both offenders were travelling in was used to force its way through roller doors at the address, damaging them enough to gain entry,” Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager Inspector Wayne Kitcher says.

Both offenders entered the address and took several large boxes containing e-scooters before driving away.

Motorists are being advised to expect delays citybound from Greenlane this morning following a vehicle breakdown.

The incident, between Greenlane and Market Roads, was reported to Police at about 6.30am.

Road users are advised to expect delays or consider alternative routes to the CBD.

More to the case following traffic stop

Night shift staff pursued a lead that led to a great catch for Mt Wellington Police this morning.

At around 3.20am, units were patrolling near Penrose Road when they stopped a vehicle.

“Once stopped the officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from inside,” Auckland City East Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Rachel Dolheguy says.

“A search of the vehicle was invoked and resulted in a guitar case containing an unloaded military style pump action shotgun was located in the boot.”

Update: Missing woman located

Police can advise a woman missing in central Auckland has been located.

The 60-year-old had gone missing this morning, and has since been located in the Grafton area.

She is safe.

Police thank the public for sharing our appeal today.

Man arrested after shots fired on Karangahape Road

A 21-year-old man is facing serious injury and firearms-related charges after an incident in central Auckland early today.

At around 3.50am Police attended an incident on Karangahape Road where several shots were fired.

As a result two persons received injuries to their leg and foot which required medical attention.

A short time later, Police located the alleged offender and firearm. The 21-year-old man was arrested and will appear in Auckland District Court tomorrow, 26 May, on serious injury and firearms-related charges.
